Kosovo Police has notified Kosovar citizens traveling to North Macedonia that the neighboring country has begun implementing road traffic monitoring through an electronic mechanism called "Safe City".
Monitoring is carried out through intelligent cameras and in the first phase will be implemented in cities such as Skopje, Tetovo and Kumanovo, as well as in Corridor 8 and Corridor 10.
Kosovo Police has said that for vehicles with foreign license plates, including those from Kosovo, if a violation is detected through the "Safe City" system, the driver will be notified upon entering or exiting North Macedonia.
"This system in the first phase, according to the announcement, will be implemented in the cities of Skopje, Tetovo and Kumanovo, as well as along Corridor 8 and Corridor 10, where violations such as: exceeding the allowed speed limit, running a red light, stopping and parking illegally, and driving an unregistered vehicle will be recorded. For vehicles with foreign license plates, including Kosovo, if the foreign citizen commits a violation determined by the "Safe City" system, a notification is provided upon entry and exit from the state of North Macedonia. Foreign citizens also enjoy the right to pay fifty percent of the fine within eight days, while in case of disagreement with the violation or failure to make the payment, a misdemeanor procedure for foreigners is initiated before the competent court. This notification is addressed to citizens with the aim of informing, cautioning and respecting the legal provisions during their travel and stay in North Macedonia," the Kosovo Police announced.
