The Kosovo Police said that a significant number of people participated in the protest organized today in front of the Government by the Social-Democratic Party, against the increase in the price of electricity.

The police have said that they have exercised their authority and throughout the entire time that the protest has lasted, they have monitored in order to maintain security.

"Today around 14:00, in the "Skënderbeu" square in Prishtina, a considerable number of people have developed a protest activity. In accordance with the legal authorizations, the Kosovo Police has exercised its competence and throughout the entire time that the protest has lasted, it has monitored the situation in order to maintain the level of security and create suitable and safe circumstances for the participants in the demonstration as well as the progress of the demonstration, but without affecting the quality of life of the rest of the citizens, not participating", the Police announcement states.

Meanwhile, the Council for the Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms (KMDLNj) has said that 2500-3000 protesters participated in this protest.

"The protest was peaceful because of the good organization of the protest as well as because of the good behavior of the police who maintained order. It is important that neither side, the protesters nor the police took any action to tense the situation, contributing to the protest being peaceful. According to the KMDLNj observer in this protest, the number of protesters was 2500-3000 protesters", the KMDLNj communiqué states.

KMDLNj has estimated that in this protest the anti-COVID rules were violated because social distance was not taken into account.
