Five applications have been officially accepted for the race for chief state prosecutor.
The names running for chief state prosecutor are Atdhe Dema, Naim Abazi, Rafet Halimi, Shqipdon Fazliu and Zejnullah Gashi.
Dema is a prosecutor in the Department for the Investigation of Terrorism. Abazi and Halimi are prosecutors in the Department for the Investigation of Corruption. Fazliu is a prosecutor in the State Prosecutor's Office, while Gashi is the Chief Prosecutor in the Basic Prosecution Office in Pristina.
At a meeting held on Wednesday, the head of the Prosecutorial Council, Arian Gashi, pledged a transparent process. He said that the secretariat has reviewed the materials submitted by the candidates and presented the five names that meet the requirements.
Among the candidates is not the Chief Prosecutor of the Special Prosecutor's Office, Blerim Isufaj, whom the KPK had selected in the competition about three years ago. In October 2023, Vjosa Osmani, in her capacity as president, did not appoint Isufaj to this position, citing dozens of violations in the selection procedure. Since then, Kosovo has had an acting Chief Prosecutor.
