For more than two months, according to the National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo (NIPHK), we have reported 40 confirmed cases of measles.
These data are for the period April 16-June 22.
According to the municipalities, the highest number of cases is reported by the municipality of Ferizaj with eleven (11) cases; Pristina with nine (9) cases; Kaçanik with six (6) cases; Fushë Kosova with three (3) cases; Lipjan, Vushtrri, Shtime and Obiliq with two (2) cases each; as well as the municipalities of Gjilan, Drenas and Deçan with one (1) case each.
The National Institute of Public Health has recommended that any person with suspected measles symptoms, such as high fever, rash or skin changes, cough, runny nose or conjunctivitis, immediately report to the nearest health institution.
According to the National Institute of Public Health, vaccination remains the most effective and safest measure for preventing measles, protecting unvaccinated individuals and preserving public health.
"Given the high infectivity of measles, the risk of its spread in the community and the complications caused by measles, the National Institute of Public Health (NIPHK) calls on parents and guardians to verify the vaccination status of their children and ensure vaccination according to the regular Immunization Calendar at family medicine centers," the announcement states.
