The majority MPs approved today, in the Economy Committee, the concession contract for the Milot-Balldren road. The construction of this axis has caused a lot of debate because of the cost that reaches up to 256 million euros.
In the Economy Committee, Arben Ahmetaj asked for an account to clarify what he described as a "smokestack" that is being thrown about the cost of building this road.
"Costs, there is an unfair smoke about investment and project costs. Are these prices in full compliance with the manuals that the government uses for public investments? Are you able to give us a comparison with a similar bridge in the region like the one in Mati, and the cost of one kilometer of road work with one kilometer of a road in other places in the region", he asked.
Earlier, as a representative of the ministry, Artan Shkreli said: "The project in question includes the construction of an 850-meter tunnel, all in the heart of the mountain, the Ura e Mati 620 meters, the one of Drini 223 meters, 10 km of secondary road. It will be of category A, i.e. the highest standard. There are two lanes and an emergency, 2,5 meters of asphalt pavement outside the emergency lane."
Further, Shkreli added that the fact that the entire road will be built in an area with not very favorable geological conditions must be taken into account, therefore studies must be done and all the necessary measures must be taken by the firm.
"The concession is being granted for design, construction and maintenance. The total initial offer was 217 million and 18 thousand 500 euros, while in the end it is over 300 million euros after the maintenance was also included", he added.

The approval of the contract for this road was made only by majority vote. The opposition voted against the approval of this contract.
The opposition has often criticized the country's government for stealing on the Milot-Balldren road and on other national concession roads/Dita.
