The Mayor of Mitrovica, Faton Peci, has reacted to the Mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama, who announced a protest against the Government for what he said was blocking funds, obstructing projects and financially punishing municipalities that are not governed by Vetëvendosje.
"NO in my name and in Mitrovica's, Përparim!" Peci wrote, saying that Rama cannot speak on behalf of Mitrovica. "I understand your tendency to play the role of opposition leader against the Government, but I do not understand the tendency to speak on behalf of all the mayors of municipalities, let alone Mitrovica."
Peci said that there is a "crazy" tendency for municipalities to oppose the Government.
"If something harms the public and civic interest, as well as inter-institutional cooperation, it is the crazy tendency for some municipalities to oppose the Government. Those who have caused 334 million euros in damage (if you are talking about the collective agreement) are on the table, but you do not know the institutional and political context in the country, and for this damage of hundreds of millions of euros, no one has been invited either for an interview or to give an explanation," he added.
Rama became mayor of the capital as the candidate of the Democratic League of Kosovo, although he is not officially part of the party. Peci, who leads the Guxo party, ran under the Vetëvendosje banner.
