"Cleaning" stops garbage collection in Pristina

The Regional Waste Company, "Pastrimi", announced on Tuesday evening that it is forced to discontinue garbage collection services in Pristina due to, as they say, non-payment of a debt from the Municipality of 2.7 million euros.

In a statement on Facebook, "Pastrimi" said that for more than five months, "the Municipality has not fulfilled its financial obligations to the company, despite our constant requests and repeated warnings."

"This situation has made it impossible to cover operating costs and continue the normal provision of services," the response further states.

Finally, "Pastrimi" called on the Municipality to immediately erase the obligations and restore institutional cooperation "in order to guarantee basic services for the citizens of the capital."

The KRM "Pastrimi" and the mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama, have clashed repeatedly in recent months.

In December last year, the Municipal Assembly in Pristina voted, at the initiative of the Democratic Party (PDK) and with the support of the LVV, to amend the new waste regulation. It states that the collection of bills for the citizens of Pristina is done by the company "Pastrimi" and not by the Municipality of Pristina.

The amended regulation was also approved by the Ministry of Environment, which considered it to be in line with the Law on Waste. However, the leaders of the Municipality of Prishtina sent this amendment to the Constitutional Court, which has not yet issued a decision, and for this reason, the Municipality has called for the services to be paid to them and not to the company. The company has called for the opposite.

Recently, the opposition in Pristina did not support Rama's proposal to allocate subsidies to the "Pastrimi" enterprise.
