After price increase, the Competition Authority is monitoring the company that sells pellets in Kosovo

Pellet

The Kosovo Competition Authority has announced that it is closely monitoring the movement of pellet prices. There are over 10 companies importing this product in Kosovo, but over 90% of the total quantity comes from Montenegro, for which the Competition Authority has said that it is monitoring a dominant company that imports pellets into Kosovo.

"The Authority has identified the existence of an undertaking with a significant share (dominant position) in the import of pellets over the years, which remains under increased supervision. Also, from the import data, we conclude that there are over 10 companies importing this product, but the four largest companies importing the pellet product account for over 70% of the import market. The pellet product is imported into Kosovo from several countries. Over 90% of the total imported quantity comes from Montenegro, while the remaining, smaller part, is imported from other countries. The Authority is continuously analyzing the behavior of the undertaking with a dominant position during 2025, including pricing policies, sales conditions, market distribution and any potential practice of restriction or conditioning of contracts," the Facebook announcement states.

Further, according to the Competition Authority, if legal and factual elements are established, an "investigation procedure against the undertaking with a Dominant Position for Abuse of its Position" will be initiated.

According to the Competition Authority, since the beginning of 2025, signals have been identified for an increase in pellet prices in Kosovo, but at this stage, according to the Authority, they are being treated as being related to seasonal factors.

"After relative stabilization during 2023–2024 and the beginning of 2025, signals of an increase in pellet sales prices in the local market have been identified since the third quarter (Q3). After exchanging information with Kosovo Customs and importing companies,  "Regarding price movements, these developments, at this stage, are treated as related to seasonal, international and cost factors (economic indicators)," their response states, among other things.
