Palokaj: Kos should not have postponed his visit to Kosovo

Augustin Palokaj

KOHË's Brussels correspondent, Augustin Palokaj, said that the European Union Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, should not have canceled her planned visit to Kosovo this week.

As a European Commission spokesperson said, Kos has cancelled the visit due to the recent political circumstances in Kosovo, on the occasion of the suspension by the Constitutional Court of the decree of President Vjosa Osmani to dissolve the Parliament, due to the failure to elect a new president. However, Palokaj assessed that Kos had someone to meet with in Kosovo. He said that the postponement of the visit was unexpected.

"In my opinion, this visit probably should not have been canceled because Kosovo has institutions, regardless of what form they are in. Kosovo has a president until April, a prime minister, whether in office or incumbent, and ministers, and Mrs. Kos was able to talk to them. Issues related to the European integration process and international relations should not be issues reserved for certain people, but for the state. There should always be someone who represents the state, regardless of the internal complications that exist," Palokaj said in a link to the "tre8tre" show on KTV.

Palokaj said that the postponement of Kos' visit is as worrying as the situation in Kosovo.

He said that this postponement should not be seen as a sanction, but as a decision to clarify that EU officials do not want to become part of possible campaigns that may be carried out by political actors for electoral purposes.

Palokaj said that Kos has also faced criticism from some EU countries as to why he has not yet visited Kosovo, even though he took office at the end of December.

However, European officials have refused visits to Kosovo in recent months because the ministers were also MPs in the political chaos of 2025, but also because Kosovo was under sanctions.

He said that Kos' visit was to mark a new beginning in Kosovo-EU relations now that the measures have been lifted.
