Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has expressed support for the nationwide protest to be held on October 17 in Tirana, in support of former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) who are being tried in The Hague.
Osmani said on Wednesday that the KLA's war was just and liberating, while describing Serbia as the aggressor in the last war in Kosovo.
"I support this protest and I have supported every protest that calls for justice. Citizens and Albanians have asked for nothing other than justice — justice that respects the highest principles of human rights protection," Osmani said after a visit to the UCCK.
She emphasized that former KLA leaders have voluntarily appeared before international justice, showing their faith in the justice system.
"It has been five years without any doubt in international justice. We, as Kosovo institutions, constantly demand that the highest principles of human rights protection be respected. I give our citizens the right and support them whenever they protest for the respect of these standards," the president emphasized.
Osmani reiterated that the KLA's war was just and defensive, for the freedom and security of the people of Kosovo.
"The KLA war was a war for freedom, for the protection of the people and the liberation of Kosovo from years of occupation. It focused on protecting the doorsteps of the home and innocent citizens who were being killed and massacred by the Serbian army. For anyone who has seen that war, it is clear that there was only one aggressor - Serbia, and only one victim - Kosovo," she declared.
In the end, Osmani vowed to defend the justice of the KLA war until the end, emphasizing that this is a war for the dignity and freedom of the people of Kosovo.
