Osmani: If I were nominated by VV as the only candidate, I would be re-elected president

Vjosa Osmani

Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has said that if the Vetëvendosje Movement had nominated her as the sole candidate, then she would have been re-elected president. Vetëvendosje had nominated Glauk Konjufca as a candidate, and then promised Osmani 30 signatures to run. Osmani refused them.

Osmani, in an interview with "Syri TV", said that he also had the support of opposition MPs, especially those from the LDK.

"Then after the elections, I was initially told that we only have 57 votes, it will be a problem with the opposition and of course we have openly discussed that we need to work together with the opposition and I have done so. I have discussed it individually with MPs, especially from LDK and some other smaller parties, I have discussed it individually with the non-majority parties, coming to the conclusion that 80 votes would be made without any problem. If I were proposed as the only candidate of LVV and we had another formal candidate as always, I am convinced that today we would have a president, we would have the Kurti government and we would be discussing how to capitalize on the extremely strong support of the Trump 2 administration", said Osmani.

She said that when it became clear that she might have a high chance of being re-elected, a new assessment came from VV, and personally from Kurti, that he would not support the candidacy.

"The more I worked with the opposition and made sure that the votes would really be there, because you know that the LDK said that there was no rejection of me and there were other parties that did not declare at all that they would not participate if my name was proposed, but when it became clear that I had a chance of being elected, a new assessment came from the LVV and from him personally (Kurti) that he did not support my candidacy," said Osmani.

Asked about statements that he wanted to stage a coup against the leaders of Albania, Prime Minister Albin Kurti, Osmani said that setting the date for national elections on December 28, welcoming the diaspora and visiting municipalities led by the Vetëvendosje Movement, cannot be considered a coup against anyone.

"This organization was in September and I only participated for 10 minutes in the meeting with President Begaj, so did I organize a coup against Kurti after September by giving the date December 28, removing the measures against Kosovo, bringing recognition to Kosovo, organizing a coup, visiting the municipalities led by the Vetëvendosje Movement, removing the coup, and waiting for the diaspora? If these are considered a coup, then I am going back to where I said at the beginning - when their most powerful ally is considered this way, imagine the others," Osmani declared.

Osmani further said that he has fully entrusted the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue to Kurti.

"Traditionally and by the Constitution, the president deals with foreign policy. I have fully entrusted the dialogue to Prime Minister Kurti. I am the first and only president who has not sent representatives to the dialogue. President Thaçi had his representative in the dialogue when Prime Minister Mustafa led it, and President Jahjaga had her representative in the dialogue," said Osmani.

She said that she had learned about many agreements through the media.

"I was the only one who did not send representatives to the dialogue, despite the fact that I understood from the media about many agreements, despite the fact that many things were agreed upon there, he knew that I did not agree, even about Article 7 of the Brussels Agreement, the Ohrid Annex, and the statute of the association, he knew my position. I have never interfered," said Osmani.

Osmani is asked if she was offered the position of Minister of Education: These things were discussed

Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani, in an interview with "Syri TV", was asked if Prime Minister Albin Kurti had offered her the position of Minister of Education.

Asked if she was asked to formally run as Glauk Konjufca's opponent in order to make up the quorum and in return be offered the Ministry of Education, Osmani replied that "these things have been discussed."

"These things have been discussed, I have made it clear that the issue is not the position. It is not that I necessarily needed a position. But it was a historic moment because it would only solidify the support that has been offered to us by the Trump administration," Osmani said.

She said that when she received support from opposition MPs, she was then asked by Kurti to have 85 votes.

"We could only prove my candidacy and we would not automatically go to the elections. What happened was that behind my back other candidates were being worked on and I understood from the television that other candidates were being worked on while I was being told to try, try to convince the opposition. When certain opposition MPs told me that they would stay in the hall, I was then asked to give them 85 votes, so this request was always increased. Although this is not necessary. I have never asked Kurti to give any ministry to LDK or to make concessions. I have never conditioned the Vetëvendosje Movement. I only asked to talk to the opposition," said Osmani.

Osmani is asked if he will return to LDK

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, in an interview for "Syri TV" was asked if she would return to the Democratic League of Kosovo.

"I will do what is in the interest of the citizens of Kosovo...I will see what will be the greatest interest of Kosovo at these moments. This will also be determined by current developments...I will fulfill my duty with honor as president until April 4. After that, I will make a new concrete assessment in the interest of Kosovo, I will make a decision on the way forward," said Osmani.

Osmani says Kurti pledged to support him, which convinced him to run again

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has said that the reason she decided to express her ambition to run for re-election was the will of the citizens and Prime Minister Albin Kurti's pledge to support her.
Osmani even said that Prime Minister Kurti told her that she is "the best president of the 21st century."

"The reason why I went public at the end of last year, saying that I intend to run for re-election, the first was the will of citizens who contacted us by the thousands on a weekly basis, and the second reason was the pledge of Prime Minister Albin Kurti himself that he would support me in this cause, qualifying it himself that our union as a binomial is an interest that Kosovo needs. We will continue together with this binomial. His assessment was even superlative, telling me that you are the best president of the 21st century. He also said this assessment after the December 28 elections," Osmani told "Syri TV".

Osmani convinced that the decree is in accordance with the constitution: However, I am not a prophetess

The country's President Vjosa Osmani has said that she is convinced that the Constitutional Court will decide in accordance with her decree on the dissolution of the Parliament, but if not, she emphasized that she expects it because, as she said - I am not a prophet who never makes mistakes.

"We are convinced that the decree is in full compliance with the Constitution. I am not a prophet who never makes mistakes. That is why the Constitutional Court exists, that is why it has always existed. Even for this prime minister, there have been dozens of times when it has been decided that he has violated the constitution. It is not my decision, it is just a formality that the Kosovo Assembly has created, not me," said President Osmani in an interview for the Albanian media, TV Syri.

President Osmani has reiterated that there was no personal interest or nervousness in the moment she signed the decree dissolving the Kosovo Assembly.

"It was clear that the Vetëvendosje Movement did not want my candidacy and I accepted it. There is no nervousness of the moment. I have no personal interest either. The 60-day deadline would have suited me better because I would have had time to invite the political parties again, starting with the largest one, the Vetëvendosje Movement. I acted as the constitution requires," said President Osmani.

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, in an interview for "Syri TV" said that as the Presidency, with contacts and the support of the diaspora, she has managed to solidify the position of the Trump 2 administration, pro-Kosovo sovereignty, pro-territorial integrity and pro-NATO membership.

"We have managed as a presidency, with our contacts and the support of our diaspora, to solidify the position of the Trump 2 administration in favor of Kosovo's sovereignty, in favor of territorial integrity, in favor of NATO membership. We have managed to talk one by one in a meeting with Marco Rubio, to make a concrete plan for the recognition of the Republic of Kosovo by non-recognizing countries. We have talked about how to get Kosovo into NATO, we have talked about opening chapters, all of them in their entirety. We have achieved everything with zero lobbying. No concessions, and we have not even been asked for any concessions in the dialogue with Serbia. It has been agreed that any dialogue with Serbia will be based on mutual recognition," said Osmani.

She said it was historic support. She said she didn't expect this success to hinder anyone in Kosovo.

"This should be a success that we celebrate together, not a success that hinders someone. I know it hinders Serbia, but I never expected in my life that it would hinder anyone else. Our territory is guarded by American soldiers together with the Kosovo police. At the Peace Board, presidents who do not recognize Kosovo have told me that so far we have not considered recognition, but this changes everything," said Osmani.
