Oncology has been without palbociclib therapy for four months

Patients who were promised that they would receive the Palbociclib therapy this Wednesday were left without it again. This week the therapy did not arrive at the Oncology Clinic either, while the patients did not receive a date when the supply was expected. There was no response from the company that won the tender regarding the timing of the supply. The company said that the responsible persons cannot provide an answer until next week, as they are on vacation.

Even 12 days after the signing of the contract between the University Clinical Hospital Service of Kosovo and the company "Santefarm", the Oncology Clinic has still not been supplied with Palbociclib therapy. 
According to the contract, the winning economic operator has another 16 days to deliver the product. 

Palbociclib is an anti-cancer drug, which is mainly used to treat advanced breast cancer. 

However, patients were warned two weeks ago that the therapy would arrive at the Oncology Clinic and that they would be able to receive it this Wednesday. 

A patient from Prizren says that, due to uncertainty about whether the therapy had succeeded, she did not head to the Clinic.

"Today marks two weeks since I went and got the injections and vaccines. As for the steps, Dr. Iliri said they would arrive today, in two weeks. Today I didn't leave for the clinic without getting an answer, because I'm from Prizren. Without making sure they had arrived, I didn't leave," the patient said.

The therapy, which costs up to 1,800 euros, has been missing from the Oncology Clinic for four months now, forcing patients to provide it themselves.

On Wednesday, patient Kimete Hoxha went to the Oncology Clinic to receive therapy, but she did not receive the medicine or a date when she was expected to receive it again. 

Hoxha says he has been forced to provide himself with an alternative to Palbociclib therapy.

"No, they didn't come today either, I got them, but just like I got the original ones, I got them like this, today I used them but they didn't help at all, I asked the doctors who gave me the instructions to do radiation because I have a lot of metastases... When I got the instructions and asked if Pablociclib had come, he said the needles hadn't come and he didn't give us any specific date or when they would be given, he didn't tell us," said Hoxha.  

KOHA contacted the winning company on Wednesday to ask if it has the therapy in stock and why it has not yet delivered it to the Oncology Clinic, but has not received a response via email.

KOHA has also contacted the company at the phone number published in the ARBK. 

A manager who responded said she was unaware of this issue and that no one from the company could provide an answer until next week, as they are on vacation.

There was no response from SHSKUK either, which was asked if it had contacted the economic operator and notified it that the supply was urgent, considering that the therapy has been missing for four months now.

Due to the lack of this therapy and the fact that patients are being forced to purchase it themselves, while not being compensated by the Ministry of Health, lawyers have told KOMA that the case should be subject to verification by the Prosecutor's Office.

For this reason, KOHA also contacted the Basic Prosecution Office in Pristina to ask if it will launch an investigation into this case, but has not received a response during the day.
