Experts: Inclusion in the Peace Board increases Kosovo's international weight

Vjosa Osmani - Donald Trump

Kosovo's participation in the Peace Board is considered a clear signal that the United States considers Kosovo a functional state and a strategic ally. This development, as well as the subsequent meeting of President Vjosa Osmani with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to political experts, is expected to strengthen the country's international position, as well as security and economic cooperation between the US and Kosovo.

Kosovo's inclusion in the Peace Board, which then produced the meeting the day before between President Vjosa Osmani and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, demonstrates that the United States sees Kosovo as a functional state and strategic ally, said political experts.

According to them, these actions pave the way for Kosovo to benefit both diplomatically and in terms of security and economic development.

Political analyst, Arbnor Sadiku, says that participation in the Peace Board is a good way to promote Kosovo through the Security Force.

"Participation in such organizations strengthens multilateral diplomacy, may seek new recognition, especially from countries that have not yet recognized Kosovo, such as Morocco or other countries in Latin America or Asia, and thus will promote its state through the Kosovo Security Force with the participation of peacekeeping troops to create peace in Gaza tomorrow," said Sadiku.

And political scientist Melazim Koci said a day ago that even accepting the invitation to participate is a privilege for Kosovo.

"We have been consumers of security, now we have the opportunity to provide security, even if only symbolically. This is a positive step for Kosovo," said Koci.

As part of the Peace Board, Kosovo is one of five states that pledged peacekeeping troops as part of the joint international security force in Gaza.

Following this pledge, announced on Thursday at the inaugural meeting of the mechanism by US President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Rubio, in a post on the X platform, thanked the people and the president of Kosovo for their commitment to peace and stability.

This message was conveyed on Saturday by the US State Department.

"The United States looks forward to working with the new Government of Kosovo to advance our shared agenda of peace, stability, and regional economic prosperity," the statement said.

Kosovo and Albania are the only countries from the Western Balkans region that have joined the Peace Board, while from EU countries, only Hungary and Bulgaria.

This mechanism was formed with the aim of overseeing the implementation of peace plans in conflict areas, with an initial focus on the Gaza Strip and its reconstruction.
