A year of online learning, professors and students at UP call virtual learning challenging

Over 50 second-year students logged in online to give the lecture on the "Data Security" course.

Together with professor Blerim Rexha, the students of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering are talking about the unit they are learning.

It has already been 1 year since the University of Pristina started virtual learning as a result of the pandemic.

Professor Rexha describes learning in this form as quite challenging as he says that it does not replace classroom learning at all.

"I consider that learning has degraded enough and students have had obstacles during the learning process, achieving the objectives, and the program is not that it has become easier and easier, but technology is already advancing and the demands on learning are only increasing, but the form of broadcasting is degrading, because with such online learning, students are much more predisposed to lose concentration in class," said Rexha.

Rexha has shown that there are constant requests from students to return to the faculties, but that it is currently impossible due to the situation.

And students are considering online lectures and exercises as difficult and ineffective.

"I believe these are very harmful for the Technical Faculty because we have a lot of numerical and laboratory exercises, and we don't have the practice we need as a faculty... The lectures don't have any effect either online or physically, but the exercises do had its own effect, so I believe that the Technical Faculty has the capacity to at least hold the exercises physically and not online", said student Edi Zenelaj.

The University of Pristina has announced that since March 16 of last year, when online learning officially started at UP, a total of 235.517 virtual lectures have been held.
