Implementation of the Law on Foreigners and the Law on Vehicles begins, fines for violators from March

The acting government has again extended the information period for the implementation of some provisions of the law on foreigners and the law on vehicles. The implementation of these laws was last postponed from November to January 15. Acting Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi has also announced the integration of the education and health systems that currently operate in Serbia.

People who drive cars with foreign license plates in Kosovo will not be fined if they exceed the legal three-month limit of stay in the country, as provided for by the Law on Vehicles. 

Foreign citizens who stay longer in Kosovo are not required to apply for a residence permit within 72 hours of entry, as provided for in the Law on Foreigners. 

The incumbent government has decided to extend the information campaign again. 

On Thursday evening, through a post on Facebook, the acting Deputy Prime Minister, Besnik Bislimi, announced the extension of the deadline.

"The implementation of the law on foreigners and the law on vehicles begins tomorrow. In the first phase of implementation, visitors entering border crossings will be provided with information material about specific procedures and rules, and this period will last until March 15," he wrote. 

Bislimi announced that after mid-March there will be full implementation, and also announced the integration of the education and health systems that currently operate in the Serbian system. 

"After this, the full implementation of the procedures and rules provided for in the aforementioned laws begins. The Government of the Republic of Kosovo announces that this period of affirmative implementation should be used to the maximum to begin the process of substantive integration of the health and education systems throughout the country," Bislimi wrote.

While in most cities in Kosovo, Albanian and Macedonian license plates are more common, in municipalities in the north of the country, foreign license plates are most common in Serbia. 

Serbia and the Serbian List have opposed the implementation of these laws and have expressed their concerns to the international community. 

Last time, the Government postponed the implementation of the law on foreigners and the law on vehicles from November to January 15.
