Kurti seeks candidate status in meeting with Costa: Kosovo aligned with EU foreign policy

Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti, after meeting with the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, as part of his visit to Kosovo, two days before the European Union-Western Balkans Summit in Tivat, announced that they discussed cooperation with European Union institutions, security and the importance of good neighborliness in the function of regional cooperation.

In a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office, it was announced that at the meeting, Kurti spoke about the Government's commitment to reforms deriving from the Growth Plan and other pre-accession instruments, underlining the importance of obtaining candidate status.

"Kosovo has fully aligned itself with the EU's foreign policy, has condemned the Russian Federation's aggressive war against Ukraine in the strongest terms, and has joined all EU sanctions against Russia," the statement further states.

Further, the readiness for the country to receive candidate status, as well as for the opening of negotiations, was expressed. 


The meeting between Kurti and Costa begins

The President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, has begun his meeting with the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, after meeting with the acting President, Albulena Haxhiu.

After Kurti, he is expected to meet with representatives of political parties.

Costa has begun a series of visits to the Western Balkan countries. He said on Monday that European Union enlargement is a real opportunity for the Balkan states.
