Niko Peleshi – new speaker of parliament of Albania

Niko Peleshi has been elected Speaker of the Albanian Parliament.

In the secret ballot, he received 84 votes in favor, while three were against.

The opposition has rejected the proposal for Pelesh as speaker of parliament and boycotted the vote. It has placed banners against the Rama 4 government in the ballot box.

"The trust you gave me today by electing me Speaker of the Albanian Parliament is a great honor and responsibility, which I accept with humility and dedication," Peleshi said after the oath, tch reports. He invited his colleagues "to set a new standard of respect for the Constitution, the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament and the Code of Ethics."

"Alongside the government and parliament, the new European standards must be grasped by the entire society, by young people, students, professionals or entrepreneurs. An entire European mindset must be built," said the new speaker of the Assembly in Albania.

Following the selection, Pelesh was congratulated by the Speaker of the Parliament of Kosovo, Dimal Basha. He wrote on Facebook, saying that the assemblies of the two states have always been and will remain close to each other, "strengthening institutional cooperation and building bridges of brotherhood for the good and well-being of our citizens."

"I wish the new Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Albania good work and many successes. I look forward to meeting and cooperating closely to deepen our institutional and fraternal ties, just as our citizens on both sides of the border expect and deserve," Basha wrote.
