Frost makes it difficult to move on the sidewalks of the capital

Pavements not cleared from snow and frost in Pristina are making movement difficult, forcing citizens to walk on the road alongside cars. They have expressed concerns about the lack of intervention by the municipal authorities

Citizens in Pristina were forced to look for safety to walk on the road alongside their cars, as the sidewalks remained impassable due to frost.

Snow and low temperatures, which have reached minus 5 degrees, have caused frost on many sidewalks, which were not cleared on Sunday.

Citizens have expressed concern that this situation is making movement difficult and endangering their safety.

"They need to be cleaned, a little salt will do the trick. They should clean them for the children but not only for the children but also for the elderly. The sidewalks especially need to be cleaned, not just the streets. It is difficult to walk, but maybe the Municipality did not have the opportunity during the weekend", said a citizen.

"For children, the elderly and pregnant women, it's a disaster, worse I don't know anymore... that it's being seen with the eyes. I know what was done here. I came today, I barely walked, but we have to be very careful because someone fell here", said another citizen.

In the Municipality of Pristina, they reasoned that heavy rains and frosts have created constant challenges.

But an announcement said that the process of cleaning the streets and sidewalks began immediately after the first rainfall.

"The cleaning process started immediately after the first rains and is continuing intensively according to a detailed plan to ensure that all areas are passable and safe for citizens. However, the rains and frosts have created constant challenges, therefore our teams are on the ground all the time to manage the situation", says the announcement of the Municipality.

Meanwhile, the Hydrometeorological Institute of Kosovo has announced that the weather is expected to be mostly cloudy and with snowfall in some areas in the coming days.

Minimum temperatures will range between minus 5 and minus 2 degrees Celsius.
