EU reiterates call for institution building

Kurti

The European Union Office in Kosovo has announced that the acting head of the EU, Eva Palatova, received the acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, in a farewell meeting.

According to the EU announcement, at this meeting, among other things, Kurti was reiterated the call for the formation of Kosovo's institutions and overcoming the political impasse.

"Wishing farewell to the acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti, the acting EU Head of Mission in Kosovo, Eva Palatova, reiterated the call of ???????? EU for the formation of institutions (I.e. Kosovo, overcoming the political deadlock, advancing reforms and fully utilizing the EU Growth Plan for the development of Kosovo as a multi-ethnic country aspiring to EU membership. The EU is Kosovo's strongest partner!

The party that won the elections, the Vetevendosje Movement, is negotiating with the Democratic League of Kosovo to resolve the issue of the president. Even after five meetings, including the one held on Wednesday afternoon, this issue has not yet reached an epilogue. On the other hand, the Democratic Party and the Alliance have been protesting in front of the Government for several days in an organized manner, demanding that the incumbent Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, return to the Parliament and constitute the institutions.

The deadline set by the Constitutional Court for the constitution of the Assembly was August 7. The election of the Assembly Speaker and five Vice Speakers follows the expiration of the 60-day deadline for the election of the President. If the head of state is not elected, the country must go to elections within 45 days.

If the assembly were to be constituted on August 7, and the president were not elected, new elections would have to be organized on November 15 at the latest.

However, with the inability of Vetëvendosje to constitute itself, this deadline has not begun to run.

Former opposition MPs claim that the constitutive session is not being concluded also because Kurti is aiming to postpone the election date until the end of December, when the diaspora usually returns to Kosovo for the end-of-year holidays.

According to them, this would favor Vetëvendosje, which in the past elections received the majority of diaspora votes.
