Muja: Subsidies and grants for crops damaged by floods open before the end of the year

Armend Muja

Muja emphasized that since 2023, based on the law on natural disasters, the competence for dealing with these issues belongs to the Emergency Management Agency, while the Ministry of Agriculture has the role of a collaborator.

"Municipalities, including Istog, have made damage assessments and sent them to the Emergency Management Agency (EMA). It should be noted that since 2023, according to the law on natural disasters, this competence belongs to the Emergency Management Agency, while the Ministry of Agriculture serves only as a collaborator. The government has created a working group to deal with these issues. Our role now is in the part of regenerating production through subsidies and grants for damaged crops. These will be opened before the end of the year, precisely to help farmers in need," said Muja.

The municipality of Istog suffered the worst agricultural blow, with damages reaching 2.9 million euros.

The hail almost completely destroyed the orchards (especially the apples in Kovraga) and entire hectares of watermelons and vegetables.
