The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned Serbia's statement regarding the memorandum between Kosovo, Albania and Croatia on a military alliance.
The MFA has said that Serbia's statement - which called the agreement a "provocation" and that it will send an urgent request to the foreign ministers of Croatia and Albania to ask for a detailed explanation regarding this - is not only aggressive and threatening, but also constitutes a clear violation of the Brussels Agreement.
"By making such statements, Serbia undermines its commitments to building good neighborly relations with Kosovo and to recognizing Kosovo's institutions and legal framework as the only valid authorities within our country," the reaction states.
According to the Foreign Ministry, Serbia is trying to present itself as a dominant power in the Western Balkans.
"This behavior is completely unacceptable and constitutes another violation of the Brussels Agreement, which clearly stipulates that Serbia will not hinder Kosovo's international relations and will not claim to speak on behalf of Kosovo in relations with other states and organizations," the reaction further states.
It is further stated that Serbia remains the biggest threat to security in the region.
“Moreover, Serbia’s claim to neutrality is hypocritical, considering its deepening political and military relations with authoritarian regimes such as Russia and Iran—all states that pose serious threats to regional and global security. While the democratic world stands united against aggression, Serbia continues to align itself with undemocratic countries that actively work against stability in Europe and beyond. Instead of issuing aggressive and deeply misleading statements, Serbia should focus on respecting the agreements it has claimed to accept, abandon its hegemonic ambitions, and take real steps to become a responsible actor in the region—starting with recognizing the independence and sovereignty of Kosovo,” the response further said.
