The MMPHI sends water samples of the Drenica River for analysis after the leaks from "Ferronikeli"

The Inspectorate of the Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure has sent water samples of the Drenica River for analysis after the announcement of water discharges from the slag dump of the "Ferronickel" factory.

In an answer to TIME, MMPHI said that they are waiting for the analyzes to be done at the Hydrometeorological Institute of Kosovo. As soon as the results are in, the MMPHI has said that it will act "according to the findings of the laboratory analysis".

In response to the reports that the slag was in contact with the water, the MMPHI has said that it constantly "inspects all the big operators whose actions have an impact on the environment".

The ministry has announced that some time ago, "Ferroniceli" was fined 20 euros for the mismanagement of the slag dump in Qikatovo.

"Then we received a notification a few days ago from the inspectorate of the municipality of Drenas regarding the pollution of the Drenica river, according to which there were water discharges in the water course of the Drenica river. Upon receiving this information, the Inspectorate of MMPHI, together with IHMK, went out and took water samples for analysis. The analyzes are done by IHMK. We have not received the results of the analyzes yet. As soon as we have them, we will act according to the findings of the laboratory analysis", says the MMPHI's response.
