The Government of Kosovo approved on Wednesday the National Program for Comprehensive Protection.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti, in presenting the agenda item at the Government meeting, said that this program aims to build national resilience so that society is prepared to resist, react and recover in cases of natural disasters or armed attacks.

"Based on our governing program, changes in the strategic security environment and with the aim of strengthening the defense system of the Republic of Kosovo, the Ministry of Defense has drawn up the national program for comprehensive defense. The protection of sovereignty and integrity from external and internal conventional and non-conventional threats and the preservation of life and property of citizens in cases of natural disaster are vital interests of the Republic of Kosovo.

Kurti said that the program was designed based on similar systems that are applied in different NATO countries.

"This program aims to build national resilience in our country so that our society is prepared to resist, react and recover in cases of natural disasters or armed attacks. The system basically has the support that citizens give on a voluntary basis to our army, the KSF, but also combined with other state structures", said Kurti.

The Minister of Defense, Ejup Maqedonci, said that the program was drawn up based on the objectives and strategic planning of the ministry he leads.

According to him, this program is based on seven pillars: State functioning in cases of crisis, state organization for the defense of the country, maintenance of vital functions and essential services of the state, state stability, stability of state supplies, protection of the information space and education of young men and women.

According to him, this system does not interfere with the development of the KSF, but enables citizens to voluntarily have their role in the defense and security system.

"As long as we are building and developing the Security Force in accordance with the comprehensive transition plan, with the comprehensive defense program we are establishing the basis for the preparation of citizens and institutions for their role in the defense system, for the protection of information space and malicious misinformation, to ensure the continuation of the operation of essential supplies and services in crisis situations and to work on the functionalization of collective shelters and other activities", said Maqedonci.

He has evaluated this program as of particular importance.

At the press conference after the Government meeting, Macedonia said that the approval of the program is not a response to any specific threat.
