Letter to the Reader — Why We're Asking for Your Support ContributeThe Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu, also the National Coordinator for Protection from Domestic Violence, has invited the meeting and will hold a press conference at 15:30.
On Tuesday in Peja, a woman was killed and the suspect is her husband. The case happened four days after a woman was killed at the Center for Social Work in Ferizaj, by her ex-husband.
"This morning, a woman was killed by a man in Peja, just 4 days after a woman was also killed by a man in Ferizaj. This is very heavy. It's shocking. It is a great pain. It is intolerable. For this reason, today I have invited the Minister of Internal Affairs, the heads of the councils, the Chief Prosecutor and the Director of the Police of Kosovo to a meeting, as well as the meeting of the inter-ministerial group. There is no other way but as institutions of the Republic of Kosovo to fight these phenomena without compromise", Haxhiu wrote on Facebook.
She has said that in many cases the perpetrators have become murderers precisely because of the lack of adequate punishment.
"The murders against women in the Republic of Kosovo have become a phenomenon that exceeds any concern. We cannot expect the emancipation of anyone until they become aware of the equality between men and women. No citizen is above anyone else, no one is anyone's property. Woman and man are equal. And as a state, we will not tolerate any kind of violence by men against women", concluded Haxhiu.
