The Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) has announced that just three days before the end of the legal deadline for the regular annual declaration of assets, a considerable number of public officials have still not fulfilled this obligation.
Through a press release, the KPA announced that according to data updated on March 29, 7.482 public officials (72.32%) have completed the declaration, 1.394 (13.48%) are in the process and 1.469 (14.20%) have not started it at all.
The KPA says that out of a total of 10.345 obligated officials, over 1.400 still remain outside the process, directly risking violating the legal deadline. It further adds that the next three days are crucial and any inaction within this deadline automatically activates the punitive mechanisms provided for by law.
"Declaring assets is not optional - it is a legal obligation. Failure to comply with the legal deadline results in the automatic imposition of a mandatory fine in the amount of 30% of the declarant's salary. Any delay over 15 days constitutes grounds for initiating criminal investigations. At this stage, any negligence is unjustifiable. We invite all officials to complete the declaration immediately. Time is running out - act now", emphasized Yll Buleshkaj, Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency.
The Agency recalls that non-declaration, delay or incorrect declaration, in addition to lack of transparency and accountability to the public, also constitute direct violations of legal obligations and are treated according to the legislation in force, including administrative measures and criminal procedures.
