Over 14 salaries for two and a half months of work - 85 MPs declare themselves unemployed

85 deputies of the 10th legislature have declared before the Assembly of Kosovo that they have no other financial income in order to receive the transitional salary of 2 thousand euros per month. They have worked for 2 and a half months and despite this, they will receive the transitional compensation for the next 12 months if they are not re-elected.

For the two and a half months they worked and were paid, the deputies of the 10th legislature will receive 12 additional salaries of 2 thousand euros per month if they do not win seats again. 

Immediately after the dissolution of this legislature, 85 deputies declared before the Assembly of Kosovo that they have no other financial income, in order to benefit from the transitional salary for 1 year, without working.

This salary, which is the value of the basic salary, is provided for one year by the Law on Duties and Responsibilities of the Deputy, from the day of the end of the mandate if they do not receive financial income from any other source or do not retire.

For the two and a half months of work they did, the 120 deputies received 350 thousand euros.

And for the next 12 months, if they are not re-elected, the salaries of the 85 deputies who reported themselves as unemployed could cost the budget 1 million 975 thousand euros.

46 MPs from Vetëvendosje applied for this salary, including the head of the parliamentary group, Arbërie Nagavci, then Rozeta Hajdari, Shqipe Mehmeti Selimi, Fatmire Kollçaku, Hysen Durmishi, and Avni Dehari, who is almost 80 years old and is entitled to a pension.

In PDK, 13 MPs requested this salary, among them the party's chairman, Bedri Hamza, the head of the parliamentary group, Arian Tahiri, and MPs Elmi Reçica, Mërgim Lushtaku and Blerta Deliu.

8 MPs applied to the LDK, among them the head of the parliamentary group, Jehona Lushaku, then Hykmete Bajrami, Ukë Rugova, Lutfi Haziri and Doarsa Kica Xhelili. 

In AAK, all 6 MPs applied to receive this salary, including Ramush and Daut Haradinaj.

While 10 MPs from non-Serb minorities applied and two from the Serb List.

These deputies, whose mandate ended on April 28, approved a total of 11 laws and 24 international agreements.

They held more extraordinary sessions than plenary sessions.

"During the 10th Legislature, the Assembly held 24 sessions, of which 8 were plenary sessions, 11 were extraordinary plenary sessions, 3 were solemn sessions and 2 were special (memorial) sessions," the Assembly's response states.

In addition to their direct salaries, the budget was also spent on them in other ways.

From February to April, 190 thousand euros were spent from the budget for the salaries of the assistants that the deputies hired.

This legislature, which was dissolved after failing to elect a president, left 10 bills unapproved.
