The Government of Kosovo has refuted the statements of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Ivica Dacic, according to which the Republic of Suriname has withdrawn the recognition of the state of Kosovo.
Halil Matoshi, media advisor from the Cabinet of the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, told REL that relations between the state of Suriname are good and there is no withdrawal of recognition as claimed.
"In International Law, there is no recognition or withdrawal of recognition. There may be freezing of relations, namely the withdrawal of diplomatic staff, for which Suriname has not had diplomatic relations, but this is media speculation. Kosovo and Suriname do not have freezing of relations and Kosovo has excellent relations with all the countries that have recognized its independence", said Matoshi.
It was the foreign minister of Serbia, Ivica Dacic, who had declared to the media in Belgrade that the Government of Suriname had informed Serbia that it has withdrawn the recognition of Kosovo's independence. Dacic said in a press conference that he was informed about this last night by the Foreign Minister of Suriname, while the official announcement also arrived during the night.
Suriname recognized the independence of Kosovo on June 8, 2016. This country is located in South America, with an area of 163.820 square kilometers and has over 550 thousand inhabitants. Since the declaration of independence on February 17, 2008, Kosovo has been recognized by 114 countries.
