Minister of Defense, Ejup Maqedonci, in a statement on the 18th anniversary of Independence, has given details from his past to the position of minister. On KTV, Maqedonci has recounted the moments when he decided to join the Kosovo Liberation Army, coming from Switzerland.
He said that he returned to Kosovo in March 1998. Initially, he said that they carried out the preparations in Albania, in secret.
"The decision for me was really easy because I was convinced that only the armed liberation war was the means that would liberate Kosovo. Despite all the political commitments that I appreciate since 1990, the liberation war was the last means by our people to achieve freedom," he said.
The Macedonian described the biggest challenge of those months as informing his family about his involvement in the war.
"Calling from Switzerland on the phone would have put my family at risk. I only informed my family after a month of staying in Pristina. From March 18 until the end of April, they didn't know," he said.

While the most emotional moment was the entry into Kosovo's territory from Albania.
The Macedonian during the war was the commander of a battalion in the Llapi area.
Regarding the post-war period, Makedonci said that all transitions have been challenging, including the transition from the KLA to the Kosovo Protection Corps and then to the Kosovo Security Force.
Regarding the current situation of the KSF as the Kosovo Army, the Macedonian said that it is a professional army and an example for the region.
"We have gone from being importers of security to being exporters of security," he said.
