LDK opens doors for Osmani and calls for unity of the right

The LDK has expressed its expectation for the return of Vjosa Osmani to the party and also for the unification of the right. However, on the day this was said, LDK exponents emphasized that the gap between the party and the voters is a consequence of the lack of courage to change in time.

The Democratic League (LDK) has expressed its intention to return all of its members who have left, with a focus on former president Vjosa Osmani.

The organizational secretary of this party, Visar Azemi, has not ruled out the possibility of the return of Osmani, who has severed relations with Vetëvendosje, since she was not guaranteed a second term as president.

"LDK aims to return all its members, so there may be a place for Vjosa Osmani in LDK, because the right must unite, as there was a process that was damaged in previous processes and we are also aiming to unify the party as LDK has always been," he said in a press conference.

Osmani, while still president, had announced her return to the political race if she was not nominated for another term as head of state.

She, meanwhile, did not receive the support of any party to run for president again.

In the last month before handing over her mandate, and even after she has completed her mandate, she has continued her tour of meetings with citizens, in municipalities throughout Kosovo. So far, she has not declared whether she will return to LDK or form a new political entity, since the entity she founded after leaving LDK, the Guxo party, is now co-led by Donika Gërvalla and Faton Peci, who remain Kurti's partners.

Political analyst Artan Alijaj said that if former President Osmani returns to LDK, then the chances of reaching an agreement on the presidency between this party and LVV are zero.

"The main discussion that has already taken place or the main potential that can be achieved is eventually a political agreement between the Vetevendosje Movement and the Democratic League of Kosovo. We have seen that the Vetevendosje Movement has no communication with other parties at all. In reality, perhaps the question mark is also the future of Osman. Today we saw again the LDK's declaration that opened the doors to Osman. If she returns to the LDK, the chances of reaching an agreement with Vetevendosje are zero. There will no longer be any interest in having an agreement," said Alijaj.

On the show "60 Minutes" on KTV, he also said that if Osmani returns to LDK, this party could return the result it had in the elections of February 9 last year.

And if there is no agreement on the presidential issue and the country goes to elections again, analyst Alijaj says that LVV will again be first, the Democratic Party of Kosovo second, and the LDK third.

"Osmani's joining LDK could return to this party the result it had in the elections of February 9 last year. We cannot ignore the fact that until 2021, Osmani was the most voted for party in the country. In this case, I think it is definitely a credit to the opposition if it goes to the elections. I do not see the possibility that if an electoral process is carried out, there will be talks with Prime Minister Kurti again for joint governance. She does not know. However, elections are not a solution, especially for LVV. One thing we can say with complete certainty is that LVV will again be first, PDK second and LDK third," said Alijaj.

And on Wednesday, the LDK announced the new composition of its Presidency. Its MPs and former MPs are missing.

Arben Gashi, a member of parliament in several legislatures, but not in the current one, was also left off the list. He said the party needs a new direction to regain the trust of voters.

"The gap between the LDK and the voters is not a coincidence, it is a consequence of the lack of courage to change in time. A political cycle has ended. The LDK needs a new cycle, with new leadership and energy, with restored faith in its authentic values," said Gashi.

The list also includes several members of the previous leadership, such as: Xhafer Tahiri, Vlora Dumoshi, Florian Dushi, Besa Gaxherri, Rrezarta Krasniqi, Muhamet Hamiti, Imri Ahmeti and Driton Selmanaj.

The two new MPs from the LDK, Adelina Thaqi and Janina Ymeri, do not appear there either.

But the member of the Presidency, Azemi, said that this list will be completed in the coming days, without mentioning names of who will be included.

"Don't take it as something final. The list of the LDK leadership will continue to be filled with other names and soon we will probably have a final list," he said.

In the tenth legislature, the LDK is represented with 15 deputies, 5 fewer than in the previous one.

The LDK won just over 13 percent of the vote in the December 28, 2025 elections, and this is the party's second-worst result after that of 2021, when it fell below 13 percent, after which Lumir Abdixhiku took over its leadership.
