The proposal of the deputy of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Mergim Lushtaku, to allow the import of cars older than 10 years did not receive the support of the deputies of the government in today's session of the Assembly.
52 MPs voted against, nine voted for and five abstained for amending/supplementing the draft law on vehicles.
In his speech, Lushtaku said that not all families have the opportunity to buy new cars and with this change in the law, it is intended to help families with low or medium incomes. In order to preserve the environment, the PDK deputy announced that in the proposal he has changed the standard from Euro 4 to Euro 5.
The government deputy, Fitore Pacolli, called Lushtak's proposal "unprofessional". She said that the Ministry of the Environment is working on changes to the Law on vehicles and proposed to the deputies to vote against Lushtak's proposal and wait for "professional changes" to the Law from the Ministry.
According to the Law on vehicles, imported cars older than 10 years cannot be registered in Kosovo.
