Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has stated that the failure to elect a new president could lead the country to new elections, but stressed that such a scenario is unnecessary.
Kurti said that the current Assembly has the mandate and responsibility to elect the new president, underlining that direct presidential elections are not held in Kosovo.
“Nëse nuk do të arrijmë të zgjedhim president të ri, do të shkojmë në zgjedhje. Zgjedhjet e reja janë të panevojshme. Kemi Kuvend dhe ky Kuvend mund t’i japë vendit president ose presidente. Duhet ta kuptojmë se në Kosovë nuk ka zgjedhje presidenciale. Pse të shkojmë sërish në zgjedhje për ta konstituuar Kuvendin që s’mund të zgjedhë president”, ka thënë ai në një deklarim në takimin e Këshillit Ministror për Integrim Evropian, raporton EO.
