Kurti announces the platform that enables the reporting of cases of discrimination of communities

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, hosted the members of the Advisory Committee of the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities, Emma Lantschner, Mikko Puumalainen and Agnes von Maraviq.

According to a press release, in the meeting, Kurti spoke about the level of representation of communities in governing institutions and about the actions of the Government of Kosovo in advancing their position in society. He informed the members of the Committee about the initiatives and programs that the Office of the Prime Minister is implementing.

He singled out the program for the engagement of 100 interns, which enables young people from non-majority communities to perform practical work in central and local institutions, and which will help them, in addition to creating work experience, to familiarize themselves with the work of governing institutions.

According to the communiqué, Kurti also spoke about the budget of 1.5 million euros that has been allocated by the government, through the Office for Community Affairs, for projects in various fields, such as for the 500 scholarships allocated to high school students of the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian, as well as the agreement for 50 scholarships for students from these communities. He also informed them that during this year an innovative platform will be launched within the Office for Good Governance in the Prime Minister's Office for reporting cases of discrimination against non-majority communities.

"Discussing the meeting held with the officials of the Municipal Offices for Communities and Return, including those from municipalities with Serbian and Turkish majority populations, the Prime Minister singled out the discussions on the challenges and opportunities for solving them together. This and similar platforms will help raise the status of these local level actors who support the rights of citizens of non-majority communities in Kosovo and will enable the Prime Minister's Office to hear directly what the challenges and opportunities are for solving the them", the announcement states.
