Tuesday’s three-hour meeting between the leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, and the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, did not result in a party agreement on the formation of institutions. However, the two leaders left open the possibility of discussing the future. Kurti said he is interested in cooperating with the LDK “for accelerated progress,” while Abdixhiku said the LDK aims for “institutional balance” where one party does not hold all the positions.
Kurti, who is also the acting prime minister, has said that he has the will and zeal to work together with these two parties, but according to him, an agreement is required that respects the election result.
"Regarding the meeting with the LDK, it would be news if we had an agreement, we do not have a political agreement. We discussed different approaches, possibilities. We need a political agreement that respects the election result, does not replace it, but transforms the result and contributes to institutional stability. Nobody wants new elections, but if we do not have an agreement, if we do not take steps forward despite the reluctance for new elections, unfortunately they could be caused," Kurti said.
Kurti has emphasized that VV is interested in cooperating with LDK, while on the issue of the president, he has stated that it should be a non-political name.
"We are interested and ready to cooperate with the LDK because our country needs accelerated progress. But the position of the president, our stance is that it should not be part of political power, but of the representation of the Republic. Let's see what the future communication brings. The concrete name should be consensual, inclusive," Kurti said.

Cakolli: LDK does not have the luxury of waiting
The leader of the LDK, Lumir Abdixhiku, also described the meeting held on Tuesday as successful and, according to him, the talks will continue in the coming days.
He said that a comprehensive agreement is needed for all three positions: Assembly, Government, and Presidency. He also said that LDK does not want the position of Speaker of the Assembly.
"If we don't have an agreement by August 6, we have told him to continue the constitution. The LDK has no appetite for the Speaker of the Assembly, because he is a ceremonial figure who should represent the proposal of the first party. For other issues, we have an additional deadline. The more times we make a solution, the better", he said. "We stay within the principles already made public. We need a comprehensive agreement to maintain institutional balance and have democratic balance within the institutions".
The constitutive session of the Assembly is scheduled for August 6. The speaker and deputy speakers are expected to be elected in this session tomorrow. A simple majority in the Assembly is sufficient for this issue.
VV secured 53 seats in the Assembly from the June 7 elections and can only secure a majority with the votes of minority communities. But to elect the president, 80 MPs are needed to remain in the chamber. LDK has 18 MPs.

The other two parties, the Democratic Party with 22 MPs and the Alliance with 7, have refused meetings with Kurti.
