Kurti: The battle of Koshare can be seen as a panorama of all battles

Battle of Koshares

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, recalled the Battle of Koshare and the moment when the Kosovo-Albania border was broken.

Kurti said that the Battle of Koshare can be seen as a panorama of all battles.

"In the history of the war for the liberation of Kosovo, the Battle of Koshare can be seen as a panorama of all battles, in which the common characteristics of both warring parties can be read. Those of the Kosovo Liberation Army who, in the battle for the liberation of Kosovo from Serbia, were helped by brother soldiers from Albania, as well as which, with its just fight for freedom, also won the support of foreign volunteers in this case, but above all, of the NATO alliance, which accelerated the complete liberation of Kosovo. On the other hand, to those who were fighting in an unjust battle and for a land that was not even theirs, the Serbian forces for whom the Battle of Koshare was hell on earth", said Kurti on Facebook.

Kurti said that in this Battle the border was broken, which was established in 1913, and which had kept the Albanians apart for almost a century.

"For two months, from April 9 to June 10, 1999, thousands of KLA soldiers would face fierce battles with Serbian troops, which would result in many killed and many injured on both sides. More than 100 soldiers of the Kosovo Liberation Army would be martyred during the fighting of those days, and even more would be injured. On the other hand, over 100 members of the Serbian forces were killed and three times that number were wounded. Serbia's military counter-offensives on April 14 aimed at the "Gllava" peak, as well as on May 6 to 11 in the direction of Rrasa i Koshare, were unsuccessful in the face of the KLA soldiers who managed to maintain their positions. In these battles, the KLA soldiers would be helped by the Albanian army, namely the Kukës Division, which would respond to the Serbian artillery attacks with artillery cannons from the border zone. From the air, KLA soldiers would take advantage of NATO airstrikes on Serbian positions, which killed 16 Serbian soldiers and wounded over 40 others. Among the KLA units, there were also some foreign volunteer individuals who had joined our just fight for freedom, among whom there were martyrs for Kosovo. Meanwhile, during the fighting, it was realized that there were also Russian mercenaries among the Serbian forces. Along with its size in fighting, troops and territorial extent, the Battle of Koshare is one of the largest and most important in our struggle for freedom. The Battle of Koshare has guaranteed the Kosovo Liberation Army one of the most special merits of the war, that of breaking the border between the Republic of Albania and Yugoslavia, established in 1913 and restored several times over the years, which had kept the Albanians apart for almost a century. Since that time of war, this facilitated the passage of armaments and volunteer troops of the KLA from the territory of the Republic of Albania to Kosovo. But after its end at the same time as the war itself, this battle united the Albanians physically", said Kurti.
