Kryeziu: The 6 LDK MPs are not named after Bekim Sejdiu, but after Kurti

Vetevendosje Movement MP Arbreshë Kryeziu-Hyseni has said that the 6 Democratic League of Kosovo MPs who have declared against Bekim Sjedi's candidacy for president are not against him, but against the incumbent Prime Minister Albin Kurti.

She said that for them the president's name is not a problem.

"I don't think they withdrew because they don't agree with supporting Mr. Bekim Sejdiu, I think they withdrew because they don't want to have a government headed by Prime Minister Kurti in any way," Kryeziu-Hyseni said in an interview on KTV's "Interkativ" show.

She said that the 6 LDK MPs who are against Sejdiu, Avdullah Hoti, Hykmete Bajrami, Arben Gashi, Kujtim Shala, Armend Zemaj and Janina Ymeri, are a minority in the LDK and that the majority of the membership supports the agreement with VV for the president.

"They have withdrawn to prevent the election of the president and consequently to lead the country into a new electoral process," said Kryeziu-Hyseni.

She emphasized that Kurti has also tried to meet with the leaders of the PDK and the Alliance, but that they have not agreed to be included in an agreement on the election of the president.

Despite this, she said that VV will make maximum efforts, as she expressed it, until the last minute, to find the opportunity for the new president to be elected.

"Of course, the numbers must be sought among the MPs and the finger cannot be pointed only at the Vetëvendosje Movement, as AAK, PDK, plus these 6 MPs who have joined this group of MPs who refuse to participate in the issue of electing the president are doing," declared Kryeziu-Hyseni, adding that this is the responsibility of everyone without distinction.

She has stated that she believes that there will be 6 more MPs among the opposition parties who will vote for the election of the president.

"I want to believe, I want to hold out hope, that until the last minute, at least 6 MPs will reflect, because it is an extraordinary, very serious situation, September is the month that will accompany us with very important processes for the country and I believe that it is very bad that Kosovo remains without institutions with a full mandate", stressed Kryeziu-Hyseni.

LDK Chairman Lumir Abdixhiku said on Tuesday after the meeting of the LDK Parliamentary Group that 6 of the 18 MPs of this party have declared that they will not support Bekim Sejdiu's candidacy for president.

Abdixhiku and LVV leader Albin Kurti met on Wednesday afternoon to discuss, as they said, the developments that followed the agreement on the presidential candidate. Abdixhiku spoke briefly after the meeting, while earlier in a post he criticized the six colleagues who said they would not vote for Bekim Sejdiu, who according to him was in fact the candidate proposed by the LDK. He ironized their reasoning that we will be in opposition, saying that this was also the position of the LDK.

With the votes of 74 MPs believed to be in favor of electing Bekim Sejdiu as president, new early elections cannot be avoided.
