Dutch Prime Minister: We support Kosovo and Serbia towards the normalization of relations

The Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, declared that the country he represents supports Kosovo and Serbia in the path of dialogue, with the aim of normalizing relations.

He declared on Tuesday in a press conference that the escalation of the situation is important not only for peace, but also for prosperity towards integration in the European Union.

"Today we have expressed our concerns about the rise of tensions between Kosovo and Serbia. The Netherlands and Luxembourg try to normalize the situation towards dialogue and de-escalate the situation, to normalize the relations between the two states. I hope that this is important not only for peace in the region, but also for prosperity towards EU integration", he declared.

According to Prime Minister Rutte, the Netherlands supports Kosovo towards integration and on the way to the protection of freedoms and human rights. He stated that the reforms in the legal system are important, while he said that the Netherlands, as the third largest investor in Kosovo, sees close opportunities for cooperation.

"We see opportunities for closer economic cooperation with Kosovo and the Netherlands is the third largest investor in Kosovo. We can do even more, work on the issue of migration, to do more in the field of visa liberalization... We support Kosovo's efforts on visas and I am sure that many steps will be taken. In the entire Western Balkans, we are ready to help Kosovo", declared Rutte.

He also spoke about the escalation of the situation in the north.

"It must be implemented step by step and precisely, and the issue is that in the European roadmap, the extensions should be from both sides. He stated that pointing the finger at the culprit in the situation created in Kosovo would not solve the problems.

"The moment the EU starts to find the culprit and point the finger where the parties say they are right, we lose our position... What we want is for this economy to grow. I want Serbia to be more successful, for the Western Balkans to be successful. I am a historian and I love history, I want to know why things are the way they are. Let's see the future and see what we can do in the future", said Rutte.
