Kosovo Prosecutorial Council member Visar Krasniqi said that the EU's latest reaction was the strongest so far against the KPK. Krasniqi, on the "60 Minutes" show on KTV, demanded that this EU reaction not go unnoticed by the US Embassy, QUINT countries and EULEX.
"This is a continuous reaction from the EU, but I can call it the strongest. We have seen reactions from the EU office continuously since June 5 of last year, when the new law came into force and the first steps of implementing the reform began. What happened at the meeting on the 20th does not constitute any innovation from the previous mindset because we are seeing the same attempts to obstruct the reform. This strong reaction from the EU office should not have gone unnoticed by EULEX and the QUINT countries. You know that the US embassy, due to the developments, no longer has a very proactive role in the Prosecutorial Council. However, from here I would like to call on the QUINT countries, the US Embassy, the United Movement - Germany, France and Italy, not to watch these developments in silence," Krasniqi said on the "60 Minutes" show on KTV.
The KPK member further stated that "when these actions occur within the prosecutorial system, what message is being conveyed to citizens?"
According to Krasniqi, there are dozens of issues that need to be addressed in the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council and the approach of Chairman Qalaj is hindering the work of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council. This Council is also hindering the certification of new member Elza Bajrami, according to Krasniqi, such a situation is not remembered in the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council.
"I do not remember such actions. For comparison, I came to the Council in March 2024 and at that time Milot Krasniqi from the Special Prosecution came after me and although at that time there were reactions from non-governmental organizations to consider gender quotas, Milot Krasniqi became a member of the Council and no obstacles were placed on him because he was delegated by the Special Prosecution. Now these obstacles to a new member are meaningless and inexplicable. For me, the letter from the EU office is a very serious concern," Krasniqi declared.
The first meeting of the Prosecutorial Council for this year, on Tuesday, failed as the chairman and chief prosecutor Agon Qalaj concluded that the agenda did not pass. One version of the agenda received 3 of the 5 necessary votes, but Qalaj, who voted against this version, said that the proposal did not pass. According to him, 4 votes are needed, since the KPK has 7 members.
