Following the ban on Italy, the Kosovo Food and Veterinary Agency (KFVA) has decided to ban the import of poultry and their products from Hungary as well, following the spread of Avian Influenza in this country.
According to the AUV's announcement on Wednesday, based on the latest report of the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) and the European Commission dated November 4, 2025, the disease of the HPAI–H5N1 type, with high pathogenicity, has been confirmed in commercial farms and wild birds in the Jasz, Nagykun and Szolnok areas of Hungary.
Based on the laws in force and preventive measures for the protection of animal health and food safety in Kosovo, the FVA has decided to prohibit the import of live poultry and their products originating from the infected areas of the state of Hungary, "except in cases where they come from unaffected farms, which are located at least 50 kilometers away from the affected areas."
The decision enters into force immediately and will remain in force until a new assessment of the situation by international authorities and the FVA.
The institution emphasizes that it is continuing to monitor the epidemiological situation and cooperate with local and international agencies to prevent the spread of the virus.
