All four Serb-majority municipalities in the north of the country submitted a request on Thursday to leave the Association of Kosovo Municipalities, each at the request of their newly elected mayors.

This request was made because they want to be part of the separate association of Serb-majority municipalities in Kosovo.

With the coming to power of the Serbian List in these four municipalities, in the first sessions of the municipal assemblies of these municipalities, their exit from the AKM was proposed, reported the Serbian media outlet "Kossev".

This action was announced by the new mayors of the four municipalities in early December.

They announced a "detailed review of the inherited legal and financial situation, so that in the coming period decisions can be made in accordance with the law and in the best interest of citizens."

With the proposal for removal, the mayor of the Municipality of North Mitrovica, Milan Radojevic, justified the request by saying that it was never the wish of the Serb population in this municipality and that it was a "political decision".

This association operates as a non-governmental organization with the aim of exchanging experiences and protecting the interests of its members.

The Serbian List had at that time opposed the membership of municipalities with a Serb majority in it, assessing that the decision was not made "in the interest of the citizens and was illegal."
