The former editor-in-chief of Radio Free Europe, Melazim Koci, has said that these days in Kosovo there are elements of the creation of an anti-Western sentiment.
Koci said that Kosovo does not need this.
He mentioned yesterday's reactions of the Democratic Party of Kosovo and its debutants to a post by the British Ambassador to Kosovo, Jonathan Hargreaves.
Hargreaves said in a Facebook post that "the sentences from The Hague are individual, they in no way judge the statehood of Kosovo."
"These days, I believe it will not happen, but there are elements of creating an anti-Western sentiment. Kosovo does not need this. It is a mistake. It would be going to another extreme. We must be cool-headed and cool-blooded and assess what is possible and what is not possible. Let's preserve the friendships we have, and at least we have had... Let's say last night I read some reactions to the words of the British ambassador. I agree with the opposition, the reaction to the ambassador. But, I think it should be done with a slightly different tone, other nuances," Koci said on KTV's "Konfront".
Koci also spoke about the possibility of new elections in Kosovo. He said that they should be avoided at all costs.
"We would not only plunge into further political discord, but we would also show the world that we lack political class awareness," said opinion columnist Koci.
He said that he believes that both the approval of the Democratic Party of Kosovo's draft law on Specialized Chambers and the election of the president and the avoidance of elections can be achieved, but said that these processes should not be conditioned.
The Specialist Chambers on September 16 sentenced four former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army to a total of 81 years in prison for war crimes. Hashim Thaçi and Jakup Krasniqi were sentenced to 25 years in prison each, Kadri Veseli to 18, and Rexhep Selimi to 13 years.
The PDK has submitted to the Assembly the initiative to amend the Law on Specialized Chambers.
