KMDLNJ wants to address the right demands of the strikers in Dubrava Prison

KMDLNJ through a press release has reacted regarding the prisoners in Dubrava who are employed and enjoy benefits that they have earned through good behavior and work.

The convicts declared to the KMDLNj that the rights they had before, such as the annual leave at home (previously it was 21 days, but now 7 days) have been reduced, as well as the denial of food parcels. During the visit of KMDLNj, the prisoners of Dubrava Prison had three basic requests:

To return the previous benefits earned through work and good behavior and at the same time it would be an encouragement for other prisoners to behave well and accept the resocialization program.

They requested that any inmate who works and behaves well be given three (3) months for each year served as early release.

They requested that the Conditional Release be functional and that the beneficiaries of this release, after having served 2/3 of the sentence, be more convicted.

"In the meantime, we had the fall of the government and the request of the convicts was not addressed until the formation of the new government, while a temporary solution was found for the food packages. With the formation of the Haradinaj government, the just demand of the convicts of Dubrava prison (and other prisons) has not yet been addressed, therefore the convicts resumed the strike by repeating their demands (rights according to the KMDLNj) and now over 140 prisoners are on strike", says the reaction of KMDLNJ.

According to the KMDLNJ, the strike of convicts in Dubrava causes many problems for the Kosovo Correctional Service, which is not responsible for the situation created because it paralyzes the work in the prison kitchen, in the maintenance of cleanliness and other services performed by the working convicts. and now they are on strike.

The Council for the Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms supports the demands and rights of the prisoners in the Dubrava Prison and requests that, through the amendment of the opposing Law, create a space that would be acceptable for the prisoners and their rights as if that the Correctional Service of Kosovo has additional responsibilities and opportunities for the treatment of persons who deserve to be beneficiaries of benefits.

"Those who have met the conditions, have used the annual leave at home, not less than 18 working days. "Prisoners who work in the holding institutions managed by the SKK, must enjoy the rights provided by the Labor Law, excluding this level of compensation," the statement said.
