CoE approves report on Serbia: Normalization with Kosovo crucial for EU membership

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, at its session held on Tuesday, adopted the report on Democracy in Serbia.

The report states that the normalization of relations between Serbia and Kosovo is crucial for Serbia's membership in the European Union. 

"The normalization of Serbia's relations with Kosovo, whose declaration of independence in 2008 Serbia does not recognize, remains a serious issue and is also crucial for the country's EU membership," the report says. 

The report also highlights the fact that Milan Radoićić, responsible for the terrorist attack in Banjska, Zvečan, has not been prosecuted. 

“On 24 April 2026, a court in Pristina issued its verdict regarding the events in Banjska in September 2023, during which police clashed with a group of Serb gunmen, leaving four people dead. The court sentenced two ethnic Serbs to life imprisonment and a third to 30 years in prison. However, the other perpetrators of the crime, including Milan Radoicic, a wealthy politician and businessman close to the SNS, have not yet been prosecuted,” the report states.
