KFOR declares itself after the elections in the north

The NATO mission in Kosovo, KFOR, has reacted after the extraordinary elections in the four summer municipalities of Kosovo, held the day before without incident.

In the statement issued by KFOR on Monday, it is said that during the day of the elections, this mission was in close contact with all the actors, including the European Union, the UN, the OSCE and the representatives of the institutions of Kosovo and the Forces of Armed forces of Serbia.

"The normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina is essential for sustainable security throughout Kosovo and stability in the Western Balkans region. To this end, it is essential that both sides avoid escalating actions and rhetoric and begin to implement their commitments in the EU-mediated dialogue, fully and as soon as possible, in order to build on the important achievements that have already been made", says KFOR's reaction.

It was further stated that this mission continues to implement its UN mandate and provide the necessary security framework for the EU-mediated dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia to move forward.
