The denunciation of 27 female students against the professor of Education needs to be dealt with urgently

Students and representatives of civil society called on Thursday to the management of the University of Pristina to urgently deal with the sexual harassment allegations. After TIME reported on the denunciation of 27 students against the Education professor, Xhevat Krasniqi, the Student Feminist Movement has placed inscriptions on the doors of the UP Rectorate and the Faculty of Education, demanding the expulsion of Krasniqi.

The denunciation of sexual harassment made by 27 students of the Faculty of Medicine against the professor of Education, Xhevat Krasniqi, has prompted the reaction of students and civil society.

Through a symbolic action, representatives of the Student Feminist Movement have asked the Rectorate of the University of Prishtina, as well as the Faculty of Education, on Thursday to expel Krasniq, who teaches two hours a week of mathematics at the Faculty of Medicine. They have criticized the UP management and the Faculty of Education for their lack of readiness to fight sexual harassment.

"We consider that even this time this institution tried to hide this case, like all other cases. This is intolerable for us. Therefore, today, we demand the immediate dismissal of professor Xhevat Krasniqi from UP. Sexual harassers have no place in the UP, so we will not stop until Xhevat Krasniqi is expelled from the UP!", said in their reaction.

With the inscriptions: "The sexual harasser has a name: Xhevat Krasniqi", and "Xhevat Krasniqi is excluded", which they placed on the doors of the Rectorate and the Faculty of Education, the students of this movement criticized the UP management for not reacting against the presented denunciations.

"We put the experiences of the students who denounced the professor in question and our requests to the Rectorate and the Faculty of Education to remind the UP that we recognize sexual harassers and that we refuse to join the silence of the normalization of the abuse of power in the form of sexual violence", it was said in their reaction.

Even the Kosovo Women's Network (RRGK) has reacted to the cases, as it has asked the Ethics Council of the UP to urgently deal with the sexual harassment complaints.

"Universities should be safe and supportive environments for students, not places where abuse is tolerated or covered up. The authors of these actions are part of public institutions and must face responsibility for their actions. We demand the dismissal of the sexual harassers, as well as their punishment according to the law", it was said in the reaction of the RRGK.

Ibrahim Gashi, the former rector of UP, said on the KTV show "60 Mminuta" that the case should be treated as a priority by the Council.

"The UP should not allow this, not even an institution of higher education or even of secondary education, this most sensitive issue that should receive a collective judgment, regardless of who is apostrophized and involved in this case. I think that this is the biggest abuse that a teacher can do", said Gashi.

Professor Krasniqi, who teaches two hours a week of Mathematics in Medicine, was reported to the Ethics Council two weeks ago.

The students have accused the professor of addressing them with unprofessional behavior during the consultation hours.

"I went in to consult with the professor in question and to see where he removed 0.5 points from the exam, let's say I didn't get the answer, but I left that office shocked with a not at all adequate, moral and unprofessional answer" , said one of the students in her complaint that was presented to the Council. "And here I am quoting his words: 'I am fair in my assessment, and so I am fair, when I take a shower and give a massage', who demonstrated the word 'massage' with his hands and approached me to hug me" , writes in the complaint.

Another student has also accused her of non-academic behavior during the consultation hours.

"When it was my turn, I entered the office and the professor asked me if I wanted to go another day for consultations, but that I had to promise not to tell anyone. I was speechless because I didn't know what to say. When he saw my reaction, he told me 'let me go, you're not the one who keeps your word'", said the student in her complaint.

Another complained that the professor made comments about their physical appearance.

"After the exercises, he is coming to us on the way home and returning to us with the words: 'You both painted the same lips, right?' Paint as much as you want because you can't have lips like this.' The professor also had other expressions such as: 'when a woman is covered with a quilt, she loses her beauty'", the complaint said.

Although the Regulation foresees that after the presentation of the violation, the parties are interviewed within five days, the Ethics Council has not considered this.

KOHA reported two weeks ago how the Council extinguished a case of denunciation against a professor and assistant at the Faculty of Education, disregarding the legislation. And for these violations, the Rectorate remained silent even on Thursday.
