The Kosovo Energy Corporation has announced that a temporary interruption in the functioning of the electrostatic precipitators has been identified at the "Kosova A" Thermal Power Plant.
In the public announcement, KEK said that after the incident, technical teams are working to identify the cause and intervene to repair the defect and restore full system functionality.
"The Kosovo Energy Corporation informs the public that a temporary interruption in the functioning of the electrostatic precipitators has been identified at the "Kosova A" Thermal Power Plant, as a result of an interruption in the electrical circuit of the automatic air compressor circuit breakers, which has caused the automatic stop of the electrostatic precipitators' operation. Immediately after the situation was identified, technical teams have taken the necessary actions to fully identify the cause, while interventions are currently underway to repair the defect and restore full functionality of the system," the announcement states.
While it has not been announced what consequences may occur as a result of this temporary interruption, KEK has said that it is taking preventive measures to protect other assets and minimize any potential risk to the system.
"The Kosovo Energy Corporation remains committed to professional management of the situation, transparency towards public opinion and a speedy return to normal operation, in accordance with the technical and environmental standards in force," the announcement states.

The Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK) announced on Saturday evening that the operation of the electrostatic precipitators at the Kosovo A Power Plant has been stabilized, following defects that were reported this morning, during which heavy smoke was seen from Obiliq.
According to KEK's announcement, the problem was caused by an interruption in the electrical circuit of the automatic air compressor switches, but the situation was successfully overcome thanks to the rapid response of the technical staff.
KEK announces that all necessary interventions have been carried out to fully remediate the situation and restore the electrostatic precipitators to normal function.
Throughout the entire outage period, according to the company, operational and preventive measures were implemented to protect assets and manage the situation in accordance with applicable technical and environmental standards.

The Prosecution authorizes the Police to investigate pollution from KEK
The Basic Prosecution Office in Pristina has announced that it has authorized the Police to conduct investigations regarding air pollution by the Kosovo Energy Corporation in Obiliq on Saturday.
"The Basic Prosecution Office in Pristina, namely the General Department, informs the public that it has received information and a video recording, on the basis of which there are suspicions of air pollution through smoke being caused by the chimney in the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK), in the Municipality of Obiliq. In relation to this case, the Prosecutor of the State has authorized the Kosovo Police to undertake "all necessary investigative actions, with the aim of verifying and securing relevant evidence," it is announced in a press release.
According to the announcement, the case is being treated as a criminal offense of "Pollution, degradation or destruction of the environment."
Earlier in the day, after heavy smoke was seen coming from the Kosovo A power plant, KEK announced that there were problems with filters in this unit.
