The Kosovo Democratic Institute (KDI) has expressed concern about recent institutional developments in the country, asking the Constitutional Court to provide urgent clarity regarding the current constitutional situation.
In a statement on Friday, KDI expressed regret that political representatives in the Assembly have failed to find a solution for the election of the president, despite successive crises over the past year. According to them, the lack of political and institutional responsibility for reaching an agreement on this important issue risks putting the country in a situation of constitutional uncertainty.

Letter to the Reader — Why We're Asking for Your Support ContributeKDI emphasizes that the current situation may produce irreversible consequences and therefore calls on the Constitutional Court, in accordance with its role as guardian of the constitutional order, to use procedural mechanisms for expedited treatment and provide clear constitutional interpretation before the development of the electoral process.
According to KDI, in a constitutional democracy it is essential that the actions of institutions, which can produce major political and institutional consequences, be based on a clear interpretation of the Constitution. They assess that processes that affect the functioning of institutions and eventual elections should not take place under conditions of constitutional uncertainty.
Furthermore, KDI warns that any delay in interpreting the Constitution creates legal, institutional and political uncertainty.
