The elected MP of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Besa Kabashi-Ramaj, has criticized the government for actions that risk leading the country towards autocracy.

Kabashi-Ramaj said that democracy does not necessarily collapse overnight, but is gradually weakened when a leader, according to her, no longer accepts the boundaries set by the Constitution of Kosovo.

"Citizens are paying the price of a state that is not being allowed to function, and the danger that is threatening our Kosovo is very great. Democracy is not necessarily undone overnight, it begins to weaken when a leader no longer accepts the limits set by the constitution of the Republic of Kosovo... When the Assembly is kept dysfunctional because there is no oversight, when power is increasingly concentrated and the institutions that should control it are weakened. These are dangerous and warning signs of a slide towards an autocracy and we should not normalize these signs," she said.

Kabashi-Ramaj emphasized that the consequences of the dysfunctional institutions are being borne by citizens.
