The Kosovo Hydrometeorological Institute has activated the yellow alert level for heavy rainfall and potential risk of flooding on Saturday. According to the forecast, the situation is expected to mainly affect the Morava e Binçës River and its surrounding areas.
The forecasted rainfall is expected to begin on Saturday around 18:00 and last until late Sunday. During this period, over 20 mm of rain could fall within 12 hours, increasing the possibility of exceeding hydrological risk thresholds.
According to the IHMK, the probability that rivers will reach the 5-year return risk threshold is 51%, while the 20-year return risk threshold is 2%.
The Institute emphasizes that, due to the rainfall of recent days and the general hydrometeorological instability, some areas may be more exposed to flooding, especially the Morava e Binçës basin (the main risk), the north-eastern part (Llapi Basin), the central part (Sitnica Basin) and the southern part (Lepenci Basin).
The institute warns citizens that the weather is potentially dangerous, advising them to exercise caution during outdoor activities and stay informed about weather developments.
"The predicted weather phenomena are not unusual, but require caution. Stay informed and avoid unnecessary risks," the announcement says.
