A large number of citizens were in the village of Burojë to bid farewell to the father of former president Hashim Thaçi, Haxhi Thaçi.
The funeral was attended by well-known political figures, but Hashim Thaçi was absent, as he was not allowed by the Special Police to attend the funeral ceremony.
However, from The Hague, Thaçi sent a message with a wreath of flowers.
"I said goodbye to you in the hospital, dad. From The Hague I say goodbye to you in heaven!" - the message reads.
Meanwhile, the mufti of Kosovo, Naim Tërnava, told the family to be proud of their relative, as people from all over Albania have come to pay their respects today.
"On this occasion, we express our regret for the great injustices that are being done to our liberators, that unfortunately today even his son, the former president, will not be at his father's last funeral. However, we are seeing that all of us from the Albanian lands have gathered to pay our respects to our grandfather Haxhiu. We are proud to belong to this land, we are proud to belong to this nation, we are proud of our continuous efforts that we have made for the liberation and independence of our country", he said. /KSP
