Hoxha: After the liberalization of visas - the status of the EU membership candidate

The Minister of European Integration, Dhurata Hoxha, as a panelist, gave a speech on the topic "Kosovo's Path to the European Union", under the organization of the Liberal Regional Political Academy and the support of the center's International Foundation, where she highlighted the importance of the process of European integration and the commitment of the Government in this process.

"The process of European integration has been characterized by a progressive dynamic in recent years, but still much remains to be done. The Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) has entered into force, creating on the one hand the contractual obligations between Kosovo and the EU, and on the other hand representing the foundations of our membership in the EU", emphasized Hoxha, noting that the next step visa liberalization is important.

The very positive report of the European Commission, the Minister emphasized, has confirmed the work of Kosovo's institutions, proving that it has met all the required criteria, a total of 95 for visa liberalization, and expects the EU to keep its promises and fulfill its duties, the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo to have the opportunity to travel freely to the countries of the European Union.

"Kosovo is now part of the EU Programs at the same level as all the countries of the Western Balkans. After the entry into force of the SAA and hopefully the liberalization of visas, now the strategic goal of the Government is to fulfill the criteria to obtain the status of a candidate for membership in the EU by 2020", emphasized Minister Hoxha, and added that European integration is not alternative but our only way.

The strategy for EU expansion, the Minister emphasized, makes it clear that Kosovo will enter the EU like the other countries of the Western Balkans, but not in the state they are in now. This means a lot for Kosovo and I think it should be seen as positive and should be used to the maximum.

"The implementation of the SAA is our most important priority. The implementation of the SAA now requires the alignment of the legislation with EU standards and the full implementation of the legislation in practice. This will require political will, bureaucratic capacities and stable financing", emphasized Minister Hoxha, noting that reforms in every field, in every sector must be in function of the implementation of the SAA because this is our path towards advancement for now. in the integration process.

The work of the institutions in these areas, noted Minister Hoxha, must be concrete and include all the links of the institutional chain and the creation of a national consensus for the reforms and processes that are part of our path towards integration, especially the measures that are part of PKZMSA.

"The implementation of the SAA is not a party agenda but a state agenda, it is not something for which only the Government should be committed, but all institutions should be committed and of course the support of the opposition is also needed, especially when we are dealing with legislative measures. Our path towards integration has no alternative, the tasks are clear and it remains for all of us to engage more and advance this process", Minister Hoxha emphasized.
